Micro-Political Leadership
A micro-political leader is aware of the strengths of each employee. They work to bring to surface these strengths within individuals, which in turn, pushes those individuals to become leaders in the school. They call on those people to help guide the creation of the school’s identity, culture and performance. They understand that the success of the school is dependent on the diverse strengths within their school and the way in which they are utilized.

Internship Activities:
  • I attended the Edgecombe County Leadership Academy week at the beginning of the school year. During this week, a team from our school worked with other schools and district personnel in the district to review district data, as well as individual school data. We participated in a process to create a new vision and mission statement for the district. We also worked with our team to begin to create a Strategic Plan (SIT Plan) with SMART goals for our school based on a variety of data sources.
  • I participated in the process of finalizing our Strategic Plan (SIT Plan) with the School Improvement Team. Part of the process included participating in a district review. We met with other schools and reviewed and edited each school's plan. I then attended the board meeting to present our plan to the school board. In the plan we identified resources needed to complete each strategy as well as a way they will be evaluated for effectiveness.
  • Attended, participated and facilitated SIT meetings throughout the year. During the meetings I presented data, as well as participated in the discussions and decision making for the school with the team.
  • I worked with the administrative team and the SIT to create a remediation plan for our students performing below grade level based on Read 3D data to help reach the SMART goals in our School Improvement Plan (SIP). I facilitated the remediation tutors, including assisting in the scheduling of groups, getting materials needed to teach the curriculum for remediation, managing students enrolled, and assisted with the communication between the tutors and teachers.
  • The teachers at our school select committees and act as the chair of each committee. The administrative team serves on the committees and offer input and support when needed.
  • I created videos of teachers using best practices and shared them with the staff in faculty meetings and professional development. Videos included teachers implementing Kagan strategies, guided reading groups instruction and using technology in the classroom.
  • The teachers at our school select committees and act as the chair of each committee. The administrative team serves on the committees and offer input and support when needed.
  • My problem of practice (internship project) focused on providing purposeful, engaging science instruction in the Kindergarten classrooms. I met with the Kindergarten teams to review unpacking documents, create units of study around essential questions and desired learning outcomes, and creating and evaluating assessments.
  • Organized activities for National Fire Prevention week and month. One event was a Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) program with the local fire department performing their puppet show while students performed, sharing fire prevention tips with parents, having a truck display and the opportunity for parents and students to go through the County Smoke House to practice how to escape out of a fire. The fire department also created a bulletin board for the month and gave fire prevention "goodies" to all of our students. I assisted in ensuring the distribution of this.
  • I assisted in the planning and organizing of a Community Campus Beautification/Clean Up Day on our Campus.
  • I met with the Police Chief to discuss the school's interest in partnering with their PAALS program to provide mentors for students.
